Fair Housing
The City of Miami Beach affirmatively furthers fair housing, which means it conducts an analysis of impediments to fair housing choices within the City, takes appropriate actions to overcome the effects of any impediments identified through that analysis, and maintains records reflecting that analysis and actions in this regard.

The Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence (H.O.P.E.), Inc. implements a fair housing educational campaign in close cooperation with the City. Annually, HOPE conducts fair housing education outreach workshops for housing providers, community groups, and residents. Their assistance includes investigations that lead to lawsuits and referrals for other services, as needed. Everything they do is free! Since its 1988 inception, HOPE has been instrumental in the recovery of over $12 million in out-of-court settlements for victims of housing discrimination.
Fair Housing laws apply to the following:
The sale or rental of housing or residential lots
Advertising the sale or rental or housing
The financing of housing
The provision of real estate brokerage services
The appraisal of housing
Blockbusting is also illegal
It is illegal to discriminate against any person because of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, handicap, familial status, or national origin.
