Important Violation Information
Vehicles identified as violating the red light signal at the listed intersections may receive a Notice of Violation at the address where the vehicle is registered. A Notice of Violation carries a civil penalty of $158. Infractions issued through this program are non-criminal and will not affect your auto insurance or driver's license records. There are several exemptions from responsibility for a vehicle owner who is issued a Notice of Violation. You may be exempt if you were:
· Yielding the Right-of-Way to an emergency vehicle or funeral procession;
· If you were directed by a Law Enforcement Officer;
· If your vehicle was in the care, custody, or control of another person;
· If your vehicle was stolen at the time of the violation; or
· If a law enforcement officer issued a Uniform Traffic Citation (UTC) to the driver of the motor vehicle for the same violation at the same location of the red light violation.
If you believe you have a legal exemption for going through the red light, you may contest your violation through an appeal hearing. You must complete a notarized affidavit declaring under penalty of perjury that one of the above circumstances applies to the exemption you are requesting. Submitting a false affidavit is a 2nd degree Misdemeanor punishable as provided in Sec. 775.082 or Sec. 775.083, Florida Statutes.

If you wish to appeal the Notice of Violation. The back of your notice contains instructions for filing an appeal with the City of Miami Beach Special Master.
Florida Uniform Traffic Citation (UTC)
If you fail to satisfy a Notice of Violation (pay fine or appeal) within the time specified on the notice, the Miami Beach Police Department will review the violation. If the violation is confirmed, a Florida Uniform Citation (UTC) may be issued.
The current fine for a UTC in Miami-Dade County is $277. From the date of issuance of a Uniform Traffic Citation, you have 30 days to act (pay violation or request a court appearance). If you do not act on the UTC within 30 days, your license may be suspended, and you may not be able to register your motor vehicle.
