The Maurice Gibb Memorial Park Project implements a redesign that will increase recreational activities and other uses within the park, based on community input. The redesign includes:
- Replacing the current playground with a custom-made music-themed play structure.
- Extending the living shoreline with additional Mangrove trees.
- Increasing the parkโs resiliency by raising the seawall elevation, remediation of contaminated soil from a previous gas station use, increasing drainage capacity and providing native trees and shrubs.
- New dog park, fishing piers, a large bay overlook, shade structures and outdoor furniture.
- New pavilions with seating for small social gatherings.
- New concrete walkways.
- Open greenspace where people can gather for a picnic, watch the sunset, play catch or kick around a ball.
- Adding canopy trees along the new walkways and seating.
- A new Maurice Gibb memorial structure.
A future project located within the park will address the Marine Patrol building and provide new restrooms at the ground level for public use. The project received funding from the 2018 GOB, and a grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District. These improvements will result in a state-of-the-art park nestled in the Sunset Harbour Neighborhood.
