G.O. Bond #45 - Fire Station #1

The 2018 GO bond funded the new Fire Station No. 1 project. Design for the Fire Station at 833  6 Street South Shore Community Center (SSCC) started in 2019 and was completed in 2023. On June 26, 2024, the City Commission authorized  City Administration to proceed with relocation of the Fire Station 1 project from 833 6 Street at the SSCC to the West side of Flamingo Park adjacent to Alton Road between 11th and 12 Street. Since the SSCC is not being demolished, there is no need to relocate the Child Care facility.

A county wide referendum was held on August 20, 2024, where Miami-Dade voters showed support for the approval of the new Fire Station No.1 project to be relocated to the  Flamingo Park Site.  The project provides for the design and construction of a new Fire Station, with apparatus bays, living quarters, training facilities, a dining and recreation area, administrative office, a maintenance and storage area, and parking as may be required.  The project will include the demolition and reconstruction of the existing Field House building currently located at the west end of the football field.

The Schematic Design phase is underway and is expected to be completed in April 2025. The building will also display the Apollo Mural by Artist Jack Stewart along the West Facade of the building adjacent to Alton Road. The new Fire Station will meet LEED Gold certification requirements.
