Salsa Fest Celebrates Hispanic Heritage

Salsa Fest takes over the Miami Beach Bandshell on Saturday, Sept. 24 to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The event is sponsored by the City of Miami Beach in cooperation with the Hispanic Affairs Committee.
“Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the daily influence of the Latin culture on everything from the food we eat in Miami Beach to the music we love and the architecture around us,” said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber.
Free with RSVP, Salsa Fest runs from 5-10 p.m. and features the rhythm of Melina Almodóvar’s “La Muñeca de la Salsa” and her Salsa Orchestra. The event also features free salsa lessons from Ricky Torres of Salsa Central Dance Studios in Miami Beach.
“Our Salsa Fest concert is sure to capture the joyful flavor of Latin dance and song as we celebrate the history, strides and achievements of the Hispanic community,” added Vice-Mayor Alex Fernandez.
Special guests include Isabella Velasquez, Ricky Melendez, Ozzie Rincón for an evening of Melina, Mofongo de Plena, Puerta de Oro de Colombia, Latin food and much more. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the show.
“Miami Beach is home to a large and robust population from many countries,” added Gabriel J. Paez, chair of the Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee. “Once again this year we are pleased to acknowledge the vast contributions of Hispanic individuals and culture to our community.”
The Miami Beach Bandshell is an open-air, covered venue at 7275 Collins Ave. Salsa Fest will be held rain or shine.
