Miami Beach Ribbon-Cutting Celebrates Completion of Beachwalk
(Miami Beach, FL) Jun 22, 2022 -
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate completion of the final segment of the Beachwalk, a more than 7-mile oceanfront promenade that now spans the entire length of the iconic city from South Beach through North Beach. The event will take place on 79 Street and the Beachwalk.
“Our City is finally realizing the vision of an uninterrupted 7-mile beachwalk,” said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber. “This will provide a unique and priceless amenity.”
The Beachwalk runs from South Pointe Park in South Beach through Lummus Park and continues north through North Beach Oceanside Park. The final segment between 79 and 87 streets was completed this spring and was funded by the voter-approved General Obligation Bond Program in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration.
“Our entire committee is just so very proud of the Beachwalk and so happy to have played a role in bringing the final segment to fruition,” shared Chairwoman Karen Rivo of the city’s G.O. Bond Oversight Committee.
The project is part of the larger East Coast Greenway, a walking and biking route stretching more than 3,000 miles from Maine to Key West. The Miami Beach Beachwalk incorporates an on-grade paver pathway, turtle-friendly lighting and salt-tolerant vegetation.
“This is one of those transformative projects that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors for decades into the future,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak added. “There is no better way to see and appreciate Miami Beach for its outdoor splendor than from the Beachwalk.”
