Free Flu Shots for Miami Beach Kids
(Miami Beach, FL) Oct 20, 2021 -
The City of Miami Beach will offer free flu shots to residents under 18 at three locations during the month of October. The program is the result of a partnership among the city, Borinquen Medical Centers, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and The Children’s Trust.
“It’s important for our children to be protected against the seasonal flu as well as COVID-19,” Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said. “We want to do everything possible to keep kids in the classrooms while also conserving much-needed health care resources.”
The free flu shots will be offered between 4-7 p.m. in the parking lot of Miami Beach Nautilus Middle School on Oct. 27 and the parking lot of Miami Beach Fienberg Fisher K-8 on Oct. 28. Vaccinations will be available in the parking lot of Miami Beach Senior High School on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is open to all Miami Beach children under 18.
Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and flu-related death in children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Miami Beach has committed $15,000 to the vaccination program. Children who receive the vaccinations will not be charged a copay.
“Flu shots for young people are a great investment for our community because they save Miami Beach families the costs associated with having sick family members,” added Miami Beach Commissioner Mark Samuelian.
