The Wolfsonian invites you to a brand-new series with our very own Dr. Frank Luca. For those not familiar, Frank is the chief librarian at The Wolfsonian. Our very first series will take place July 19 from 6:30-8pm in the auditorium. Please join us that evening as we implement this new program and invite Miami Beach community leaders and Wolfsonian members. The format is a presentation using film shorts and clips curated by Dr. Luca to showcase the subject matter. The first one is called Frank Capra’s “It’s a worthwhile war: Educating the citizen soldier during the second World War.
This lecture/presentation will use Wolfsonian library materials (War Dept. Education manuals from the GI roundtable series) and documentary film sources (such as Frank Capra’s Why We Fight series) to examine the ways in which the U.S. government balanced the imperatives of military secrecy against the need to educate and inform the citizen-soldiers of a free Republic in a war waged against totalitarian regimes that relied on propaganda.
