Join an evocative exploration of resilience, art and defiance, centering the life of pioneering Dutch cellist and conductor Frieda Belinfante. Through a combination of presentation and performance, this event traces Belinfante’s journey from her career as a musician in pre-war Netherlands, to her courageous acts with the underground resistance during WWII, to her post-war legacy as a music director in California. Weaved throughout her story will be a performance of Henriëtte Bosmans’ Sonata for Cello and Piano, honoring Belinfante’s personal and musical connections. This event echoes New World Symphony’s Resonance of Remembrance series, inviting Miami audiences to engage with a seldom-told story that celebrates the intersection of history, resistance and classical music’s rich, layered legacy.
