Cuban Classical Ballet presents Eternal Love

February 22 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM), founded in 2007 to promote and preserve the classical ballet repertoire, technique, and style as exemplified by the renowned Cuban School of Ballet, invites audiences to experience an unforgettable evening of ballet on Saturday, February 22, at 8:00 pm. The performance will take place at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater, with the program titled “Eternal Love.”

Drawing on the timeless themes of love, heartbreak, and the supernatural, the program will feature excerpts from some of the most iconic “White Ballets” of the 19th century. These ballets, which are often imbued with ethereal, dreamlike qualities, reflect the Romantic era’s fascination with purity, innocence, and the realm of the spirits. The CCBM’s performance will bring to life these poetic works, showcasing a cast of international Cuban principal dancers alongside the company’s corps de ballet, all dressed in stunning costumes and surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

The program includes:

  • “Les Sylphides”
Choreographed by Mikhail Fokine to music by Frédéric Chopin, this short, non-narrative ballet captures the essence of the Romantic ballet blanc. Set in a moonlit landscape, a young man encounters a group of sylphs—ethereal, air-bound spirits—and is drawn into their otherworldly dance.

  • “Giselle” (Second Act Pas de Deux)
Considered one of the greatest works in the classical ballet canon, this masterpiece, choreographed by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli with music by Adolphe Adam, tells the tragic story of Giselle, a peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering that her lover, Albrecht, is a nobleman in disguise. The Wilis, vengeful spirits of women betrayed by their lovers, summon Giselle from her grave, but her love for Albrecht ultimately saves him.

  • “Swan Lake” (Second Act Pas de Deux)
Choreographed by Marius Petipa to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, this iconic moment in “Swan Lake” features the famous pas de deux between Prince Siegfried and Odette, the cursed princess who has been turned into a swan. Their poignant duet expresses themes of eternal love and devotion, with the Prince’s vows of loyalty offering a glimpse of hope against the evil sorcerer’s curse.

  • “La Bayadère” (The Temple Dancer)
Choreographed by Marius Petipa to music by Ludwig Minkus, “La Bayadère” tells the tragic tale of Nikiya, a temple dancer in ancient India, and her eternal love for the warrior Solor. Despite the obstacles they face in life, their spirits are reunited in the afterlife, symbolizing the unbreakable bond of true love.

Under the artistic direction of Eriberto Jiménez, the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami continues to deliver exceptional performances that celebrate the beauty and artistry of classical ballet. This captivating evening will showcase the company’s technical precision and artistry, paying homage to the rich tradition of Romantic ballet while offering a fresh and dynamic interpretation.
