Other Projects

The Washington Avenue Shared Lanes Project will install shared lane bicycle markings along Washington Avenue from South Pointe Drive to Dade Boulevard in the outside travel lanes adjacent to the parking lane. The new pavement markings are also intended to make motorists aware of the fact that they must share the road with bicyclists. The City is also planning to install shared lane markings in other city locations. The next shared lanes will be installed along 44 Street to provide a connection between Muss Park, Pine Tree Park, and the existing bike lanes on Prairie Avenue and Royal Palm Avenue.The intent of these project is to improve bicycle safety by encouraging bicyclists to ride: Promotional Banner

    • outside of the car door zone
  • The Dade Boulevard Bike Path will be an off-road multi-use recreational trail running adjacent to Dade Boulevard from Purdy Avenue to 23 Street.  The project will be designed to extend the existing Venetian Causeway bikeway to destination points within Miami Beach, providing a major east/west connection.
  • The Park View Island Bike Path Project will provide a non-motorized trail along the Park View Island Canal from 73 Street to 77 Street.  In addition to recreational benefits, the proposed bike path will provide a safe linkage for pedestrians and bicyclists between 71 Street, North Shore Youth Center, Biscayne Elementary School, and Biscayne Point Neighborhood.  The bike path will also provide residents and visitors of the City access to one of the only mangrove ecosystems in North Beach.
  • Interim Striping Project
  • Other bicycle improvements along Washington Avenue include the addition of bicycle racks from 4 Street to 17 Street, as well as Citi Bike Miami Rental Stations throughout the corridor.

 

 

 

 

 

 

How to

Motorists

  • When passing a cyclists, keep a three-foot distance between your vehicle and the bicycle.
  • Look out for approaching cyclists before opening your car door when parked.
  • Cyclists have the right to take a lane; it's a State of Florida law.

Cyclists

  • Follow traffic rules of the road, including traffic signals.
  • Ride in the same direction as vehicles and yield when making turns.
  • Yield to pedestrians when riding on a sidewalk.
  • Use lights and wear reflective gear.

Pedestrians 

  • Obey all traffic laws. If no sidewalks are present, walk against the direction of traffic to see oncoming vehicles.
  • Always use the crosswalk. Push the button to get the walk signal.
  • Be visible. Wear bright, reflective colors.
