Tourism and Culture Introduction

Miami Beach has a rich history as a trend setting cultural center, from the world famous nightclubs of the 50’s, to today’s modern South Beach. The City of Miami Beach’s identity is intrinsically linked to the arts, and today our entertainment, production and arts communities are stronger than ever. Miami Beach is truly a major international entertainment and cultural destination.

This department supports, maintains and develops quality programs which enhance the City’s cultural institutions and infrastructure, as well as the city’s cultural and tourist industries, while striving to provide year-round events, concerts, movies in the park, and theater productions that enhance both the visitor’s experience and the quality of life of our residents.

The department was established to centralize the city’s tourism and cultural initiatives and programs through the unification of the Special Events Office, Film & Print Office, Art in Public Places, Cultural Arts Council, Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC), Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, Byron Carlyle and Colony Theaters. The department also partners with the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority (VCA) and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) to market and promote the City of Miami Beach as a destination.
