Major Ian Robinson is currently our department’s operations manager. Prior to, he held the position of captain, taking on various responsibilities within the department. He served as the acting major of the detective bureau, overseeing special operations, managing the Area 2 Middle District, and overseeing the Area 4 Entertainment District. As Patrol Division Executive Officer, Major Robinson played a crucial role in deploying police resources for numerous special events.
As a lieutenant, Major Robinson commanded and oversaw officers and supervisors in Uniform Patrol, including the fourth shift's bike squad. He served in the Internal Affairs Unit as the acting commander, contributing to the department's internal operations. While a sergeant, Major Robinson oversaw Uniform Patrol, Bicycle Patrol, Field Training, and supervised both the Burglary and Theft Squads, as well as the Special Victims Unit within the Criminal Investigations Division.
Before joining the Miami Beach Police Department, Major Robinson served with the Metro-Dade Police Department, where he gained valuable experience in various capacities, including uniform patrol in districts such as Intracoastal, Miami Lakes, Carol City, Northside, Housing and Urban Development, Transit, and Jackson Memorial Hospital. He developed a passion for police work during his time as a Miami Beach Police Explorer and attended the University of Miami.
