The Office of Community Services serves as an information and advocacy conduit for our community’s elder residents. Our referral process connects elder residents with a variety of community-based services including:- Housing- Rent Assistance- Independent Living Supports- Food (including delivered meals)- Senior Aides Employment Program- Day/Recreational Programming For a community based directory for Elder Services, please visit the Alliance for Aging.
For a list of Senior programs offered by the City's Park and Recreation Department, you can call the North Shore Youth Center at 305.861.3616.The Office of Community Services ensures that elders with special needs are enrolled in the County's People with Special Needs and Emergency Evacuation Program (PSN/EEAP). The PSN/EEAP is registration driven and the locations are not published. Upon qualifying for the program, a letter of confirmation will be mailed to the special needs client and it will identify the shelter location will then be identified to the client. The Special Needs Evacuation Centers (SNECs) are staffed with medical personnel from the Department of Health and/or Jackson Memorial Hospital nursing staff.Registration is made possible by visiting the County's EEAP website:

The Office is also a partner with the Alliance for Aging's SHINE program (Serving Health Insurance Needs for the Elderly), a free program offered by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the local Area Agency on Aging. Specially trained volunteers can assist elders with their Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance questions by providing one-on-one counseling and information.
SHINE services are free, unbiased, and confidential. A counselor is available at the Answer Center on appointment basis. If you would like to make an appointment, please call 305.673.7491. For more information about SHINE, you can visit www.floridashine.org.
